SQL Sentry Version 6.2

It has been some time since we sent out our last eNews, but we've been very busy here at SQL Sentry. We recently showcased our latest release, SQL Sentry version 6.2, at SQLBits 9 in Liverpool and the PASS Summit 2011 in Seattle. Both were great conferences and we appreciate the opportunity to meet personally with the leaders in the SQL Server community. Here is a summary of the newest features and enhancements:

  • SharePoint Timer Job Monitoring and Alerting
  • SSAS Usage Details by Attribute, Partition and Aggregation
  • Enhanced Server-Level Security
  • Performance Dashboard Event Overlay
  • Streamlined Setup

For more details on v6.2, check out Greg's blog, SQL Sentry v6.2: SharePoint Timer Jobs, Oh My!, and for a look back at the changes in v6.1, SQL Sentry v6.1: Something Old, Several Things New.

If you're attending SQL Server Connections, Oct 31 - Nov 3, 2011, be sure to stop by booth #401 for a demo of v6.2, and perhaps even a sneak preview of features in the upcoming release.

SQL Sentry Plan Explorer

Ever since we introduced SQL Sentry Plan Explorer, we've received accolades for not only developing the software but also for making it available to the community for FREE. If you'd like to see some of those comments, just visit @SQL_Sentry Favorites. Add your own by tweeting with the hashtag #PlanExplorer.

For more details about Plan Explorer, be sure to read through the blogs posts of Aaron Bertrand and Greg Gonzalez. For those that prefer video, Aaron shows the comparison between SQL Server Management Studio and Plan Explorer in SQL Query Plan Analysis Made Easier, and Paul Randal of SQLskills provides an overview of how to use Plan Explorer to analyze what's using space in tempdb.

We've even had multiple requests for some kind of demo to help people share the tool with their audiences without having to fabricate their own problem queries or interesting plans. Aaron created a demo kit in response to that demand and to help give people a jump-start on showing off the tool.

SQLskills Immersion Events

In the beginning of 2011, we announced an exclusive sponsorship of SQLskills Immersion Training events. We’ve sent several members of the SQL Sentry technical team through the training, and so we realize the benefits of the training firsthand on a daily basis – both when designing innovative new product features, and while delivering world class support services to our customers. If you've not had the opportunity to attend Immersion training, do whatever you need to in order to make that happen in 2012. It looks like they even have a few spots open for their Immersion Event on Internals and Performance in Atlanta, GA, Dec. 5 -9 2011.

If you have any questions, please let me know. To stay up to date on the latest about SQL Sentry, check us out on twitter and facebook.

Best regards,
