Whether you're using native backups or a compressed backup system - you KNOW how
important server backups are - but did you know that unless you are using
Event Manager,
you're not getting optimal performance from your backup
software/hardware?
Gain immediate control of all the backup activity across even the
largest cross-platform enterprises quickly and easily with Event Manager. In
one view, a calendar lists every backup event on
every server. Event Manager also allows you to easily create "shared
resource views", which are calendars of your backup jobs that
utilize the same network resource, such as a
NAS (Network Attached Storage) or
SAN (Storage Area Network) device,
or even a network segment. Any conflicts are easily identified on
the calendar and remedied by drag and drop rescheduling. Event
Manager
even ships with several pre-configured sample views for various
compressed backup systems to make getting started a breeze,
including Quest LiteSpeed, Idera SQLsafe, and Red Gate SQL Backup.
About Event Manager's Calendar View
The events (SQL Server Agent jobs, Oracle jobs or Windows tasks) which have
scheduling conflicts will automatically show up on the Event Manager
calendar view with an orange background. From here, you simply
drag-and-drop future event instances within the calendar to
eliminate the scheduling conflicts and reduce associated contention.
As you drag-and-drop event instances to reduce conflicts, Event
Manager
changes the backgrounds to white, denoting “no conflicts”.
When all events in your Event Manager calendar view have a white
background, you know you have a “leveled” schedule. A leveled
schedule ensures that any bottlenecks and associated IO errors on
the SAN's disk subsystem and network are minimized, and that the
backups will run at optimal speed. Also, any changes or additions to
your backup plans in the future will be immediately visible through
Event Manager for continued optimal performance!
